Giving Instructions

The following is a guide that covers how to give according to God's Word! Here you can find an overview of the gifts included in the Scriptures and instructions on giving and activating the power of Giving in your Life!

Note: The Tithe law is only necessary if the Givers heart is not renewed or to remind the Giver who has slipped and begins to conform to the world.

Step 1 - Heart Installation

    1. Install the giving heart. Give is defined as to "freely transfer the possession of (something) to (someone);"
    2. Prepare your heart and mind to give.

"Each one must give as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." [2 Corinthians 9:6]

Image When you have a heart to give, you will give when prompted by your heart because you have decided to take up your cross and follow Jesus who set the example and gave his life. He also talked of a widow who gave her two mites, which was all she had. Our goal should be to give all that we can give at any one time with regard to what God has told us to do. God has not commanded everyone to die on a cross or give their last two mites, however the heart that these exemplary persons have is to be patterned after.

"What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you." [Philippians 4:9]

In 1999, my heart was broken and totally changed. I took all of my worldly possessions and traded them in for heavenly possessions. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. I took some of the money and gave it to my local church. I was set free and have forever been set free. I wish my heart did not have to be broken in order for me to give, but that is God's way sometimes. I no longer wear gold chains, bracelets, rings, or watches for those were the adornments of my old life. I now wear a smile, joy, praise, and anointing oil for my head. My new life is adorned by gifts from Jesus and they were very expensive, paid for with his blood.

"The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise" [Psalm 51:17, ESV]

Step 2 - Giving

  1. Decide and agree with Jesus that "It is more blessed to give than to receive" [Acts 20:35, ESV]
  2. Decide and agree there are many gifts to give and tithing from our increase and giving offerings are two ways, however "These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others." [Matt. 23:23]
  3. Decide and agree that giving and forgiving are connected, so if someone has something against you then, "First be reconciled to your brother[or sister], and then come and offer your gift." [Matthew 5:24]
  4. Decide and agree that when you give according to God's terms "it will be given...Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap" [Luke 6:37-38, ESV]
  5. Decide and agree that what I receive is directly connected to what I give such that, "...He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully" [2 Corinthians 9:5]

I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread. He is ever lending generously, and his children become a blessing.

Faithstreet Instructions

We always recommend giving in the way that God leads you and in a way that is practical and acceptable for you and your family. Faithstreet has been providing tools to help us with Biblical stewardship and how to effectively honor God through giving. You may continue giving during our 11am Worship service by giving your gift or an envelope during the designated time if you desire to receive a giving record. You may also set up an automatic draft or payment from your bank. You may mail in payments, preferably not cash. You may give to any deacon, finance ministry member, or your pastor for transfer into general or special offerings. You may give to special events or specific ministries, however we prefer you do this after you have already given your tithe to the Lord so that the church can have an orderly structure and remain accountable to all the members who give.

      • Give Online should be displayed on a green button for you to click.
      • You can sign up whether you are an official member of Gethsemane or not.
      • Just enter the amount you want to give and the frequency you want to give it.
      • You can select General account for Tithes and Offerings or Designate Youth or Mission
      • You can choose to pay the transaction fee or let it be taken out of your gift
      • You can then choose your payment method via debit card or checking account

Note: Card payments have a slightly higher transaction fee, while checking account transactions are lower. The total fee is less than 3% for checking transactions, so expect to pay no more than $3 for a $100 gift. Your $3 pays for this convenience and your gift is taken out of your account the same day you designate. You can change recurring giving dates or just choose one time and you will not be debited again until you return and initiate another transaction.
